About the Topic:
Technological advances have not only affected international trade, but also social interaction between people. As the world becomes more globalised, the social boundaries between individuals have slowly begun to disappear, giving rise to many international relationships. From a Turkish private international law practitioner's point of view, the legal implications of such relationships are even more significant, considering that there are more than 6.5 million Turkish citizens living abroad. The recognition of foreign divorce decrees in Turkey is one of the most important legal aspects of the consequences of such international relationships.

This presentation will explain the legal regime of recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments under Turkish law with a special focus on the recognition of foreign divorce decree.

About the Seminar Series:
The seminar series “Current Research on Turkish Law” regularly invites outstanding scholars and practitioners working on different topics of Turkish private law to present and discuss their findings. The seminar series particularly aims to create a platform where both international researchers interested in Turkish law and Turkish researchers working on comparative law can come together and exchange scholarly ideas. Participation is open to all interested students and researchers.
