It is our pleasure to invite you to a lecture programme being jointly sponsored by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law and the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV).

As a further instalment in the lecture series “China’s Legal System in Transformation”, this year’s programme – “Update 2016” – will examine recent changes in China’s general legal framework. Experts from practice and academia will report on progress being made in the implementation of legal reforms in China. Speakers will be focusing on the current rules governing various means of foreign direct investment, these including joint ventures, foreign invested enterprises (FIE), and the steering mechanism of the foreign investment catalogue. These regulations will be looked at in the context of (i) recent developments in the Free Trade Zones, (ii) the draft law on foreign investments, and (iii) the planned introduction of the “Negative List”. An additional topic of inquiry will be the recent amendment of the FIE-Statute (effective since 1 October 2016) by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The day will be rounded off by a company report and a panel discussion featuring all of the day’s speakers.
