Walter Doralt appointed professor at University of Graz

Walter Doralt, a former senior research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, has been appointed full professor at the University of Graz, where he will hold the chair in Civil Law, European Private Law and Comparative Law as of 1 May 2019.

Prof. Dr. Walter Doralt studied law at the University of Vienna and the Università Cattolica in Milan. After completing his doctorate at the University of Vienna, he was a fellow at the University of Oxford (Institute of European and Comparative Law) in 2007-2008 and at the Università Bocconi in Milan (visiting professor, winter semester) in 2008-2009. From 2009 to 2017, he was a senior research fellow at the Institute, where he also headed the France Unit. He has taught at Bucerius Law School since 2013.

In July 2017, he received his Habilitation from Bucerius Law School. His teaching qualification covers civil law, commercial and company law, comparative law, private international law, and law and economics. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Münster (during the post-doctoral qualification process in the 2017 summer semester and again in the 2017-2018 winter semester) as well as at the University of Regensburg (2018 summer semester) and the Freie Universität Berlin (2018-2019 winter semester).

For his scholarly achievements to date, particularly his post-doctoral thesis on long-term contracts, Walter Doralt received the Kardinal-Innitzer-Förderungspreis in 2017. The thesis is published by Mohr Siebeck (2018):
