About the Speakers:
Diego P. Fernández Arroyo is Professor of Law at Sciences Po
Law School in Paris, France. He is an internationally recognized expert
in private international law and international arbitration, and has held
key positions in various academic and professional institutions. He is
the President of the Curatorium of the Hague Academy of International
Law.
Carmen Tiburcio is Full Professor of Private International
Law at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A prominent
figure in Latin American legal scholarship, she is a member of the
International Academy of Comparative Law and has lectured at the Hague
Academy of International Law. She also serves on the commission
responsible for drafting Brazil’s new private international law code.
Jürgen Samtleben is Former Senior Research Fellow and Head of
the Centre of Expertise on Latin America at the Max Planck Institute
for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany. He is
widely known for his authoritative research on Latin American legal
systems and his contributions to comparative law.
About the Topic:
The first session of the MPI-ASADIP Trialogues in Private
International Law will address key trends and transformations in the
field across Latin America. Diego P. Fernández Arroyo will speak about
the “Current Developments in Private International Law in Latin
America”, Carmen Tiburcio will present on the “New Private International
Law Reform in Brazil”, and Jürgen Samtleben will reflect about the
“Foundations of Private International Law in Latin America”.
The session will take place in a trilingual format, giving participants
the chance to engage in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
MPI-ASADIP Trialogues in Private International Law is a multilingual academic event series exploring current developments in Private International Law across the Americas. Organized by the Max Planck Institute (Hamburg) in cooperation with the Asociación Americana de Derecho Internacional Privado (ASADIP), the series fosters intercultural dialogues in Private International Law in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
