Conference on Trust and Law in Africa
- Date: Dec 2, 2024
- Location: hybrid event
On Behalf of Prof. Dr. Hatem Elliesie (University of Leipzig and MPI for Social Anthropology), Isaac Kundakogo Kunko (MPI for Innovation and Competition), Dr. Gebreyesus Abegaz Yimer (MPI for Comparative and International Private Law) and the Max Planck Law network we cordially invite you to the hybrid conference on Trust and Law in Africa on Monday, 2 December 2024 from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (CET). The conference is jointly organised by the Law and Africa Initiative of Max Planck Law and the African Law Association.
Trust is one of the concepts explored by scholars from varied backgrounds, including but not limited to neurologists, psychologists, sociologists, political scientists and economists. Trust is also an essential concept in legal studies. Both trust and law are concerned with relations between individuals and groups. In this conference, we aim to explore the interdependence and complex relation between law and trust and examine how that relates to the notion of laws in Africa. We believe that the conference theme is open to broader groups of specialities within the study of law, and it can serve as a focal point to examine Law and Africa from different dimensions using varied methodologies.
The hybrid conference will take place on site at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg/Germany. You also have the possibility to participate online in the conference.
Please register for the conference (for on-site participation as well as for online participation) no later than 27 November 2024 using this LINK.
