Knut Benjamin Pißler elected Vice-President of the German-Chinese Jurists’ Association
Knut Benjamin Pißler, Head of the Centre of Expertise on China and Korea at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, was elected Vice-President of the German-Chinese Jurists‘ Association (DCJV) on 30 November 2021.
Prof. Dr. Benjamin Pißler, M. A. (Sinology) thereby succeeds Prof. Dr. Uwe Blaurock, who will continue his engagement as honorary president of the DCJV. The Association was founded in 1986 with the goal of fostering and broadening an awareness and understanding of Chinese law in Germany and, reciprocally, of German law in the People’s Republic of China. The annual meetings, conferences, seminars, and lecture events staged by the DCJV offer lawyers, judges and legal scholars from both countries regular opportunities for academic and professional exchange. Since 1994 the DCJV has, in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Private Law and the German-Chinese Institute for Law, published the Zeitschrift für chinesisches Recht/German Journal for Chinese Law (ZChinR/GJCL).
Pißler studied law at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and at the University Hamburg; while at the latter he also studied sinology. In 2002 he assumed the duties of China reporter at the Max Planck Institute for Private Law. In 2013 he was awarded his post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) from the Law Faculty at the University of Göttingen, and in 2017 he was named professor of Chinese law. Among his other roles he sits on the academic board of the Journal of Chinese Law.
