German Journal of Chinese Law fully available as open access publication

September 19, 2025

With the release of issue 3/2025, the most recent publication of the Zeitschrift für Chinesisches Recht/German Journal of Chinese Law (ZChinR/GJCL) has for a third time been made available open access. Published by the Institute in collaboration with the German-Chinese Jurists’ Association and the Sino-German Institute for Legal Studies, the Journal has also featured a new editorial design since the beginning of the year. In October 2025, Holger Hanisch will become the Journal’s new managing editor, succeeding Knut Benjamin Pißler, head of the Institute’s Centre of Expertise on China and Korea. Pißler will shift to the Journal's academic advisory board.

The ZChinR/GJCL covers a wide range of topics, including the current law and modern legal history of China. The Journal brings together contributions from academia and legal practice. Particular attention is paid to legal aspects in respect of the country's economic development as well its international relations. The ZChinR/GJCL is the only regularly appearing publication on Chinese law that – with German and English-language contributions – publishes detailed reports, analyses, and further information on legal developments in China as well as conference reports and book reviews. The recently released issue 3/2025 includes an article by Ben Köhler, former research fellow at the Institute, analysing Taiwan’s status under the CISG, another article by Knut Benjamin Pißler on the basic elements of actions to set aside corporate resolutions in China, and a German translation of the People’s Republic of China’s Emergency Response Law. The issue is available at: https://doi.org/10.71163/zchinr.2025.32.3.

Since the start of 2025 and under the coordination of the Institute’s editorial offices, all issues of the ZChinR/GJCL are being published pursuant to a CC BY 4.0 Creative Commons licence, at no cost to readers or authors. With this step, the Institute has further extended its portfolio of open access publications.  Information on publishing texts open access with the ZChinR/GJCL can be found at: https://www.zchinr.org/index.php/zchinr/openaccess.
