European Company and Financial Law Review

The “European Company and Financial Law Review” (ECFR) is a leading academic journal serving as a platform for debate across Europe on the drafting and application of European and comparative company and financial market law. It is aimed at universities, lawmakers on the European and national levels, courts, lawyers, banks and other financial service institutions, in-house counsel, accountants and notaries who draft or work with European company and financial law.

As regards both legislation and case law, European Union law has become a steadily more dominant factor for the determination of the company law, financial market law and banking law of the Member States. National law, however, also continues to play a major role in several fields. Yet the discussion of these European and national developments is still to a great extent restricted to the national communities of experts and is subject to a strong publication and language barrier. The ECFR looks to change this situation by serving as a leading academic platform fostering a pan-European debate on the drafting and application of European and comparative company and financial market law. Since 2004, it has targeted universities, legislative bodies on both the European and national levels, courts, lawyers, banks and other financial service institutions, in-house counsel, accountants and notaries who draft or work with European company and financial law.

Based on an initiative by the editors of the Zeitschrift für Unternehmens- und Gesellschaftsrecht (ZGR), the ECFR soon gained the support of many sister publications that are leading company and financial market law journals in their respective jurisdictions. Accordingly, ECFR is currently published in cooperation with Ondernemingsrecht en Financieel recht, Revista de Derecho de Sociedades (RdS), Revue des sociétés (Rev. soc.), Revue pratique des sociétés - Tijdschrift voor rechtspersoon en vennootschap (RPS-TRV), Rivista delle società (Riv. Soc.) and the Schweizerischen Zeitschrift für Wirtschafts- und Finanzmarktrecht (SZW).

As with the ZGR, the ECFR appears six times a year and is published by De Gruyter, with each issue comprising approximately 800 print pages. The managerial board is populated by Holger Fleischer, Jesper Lau Hansen, Maarten J. Kroeze, Hanno Merkt, Andrés Recalde Castells, Marco Ventoruzzo and Marieke Wyckaert. Emeritus Institute Director Klaus J. Hopt sits on the advisory board.
