Listed Family Companies
Organized annually by the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in partnership with the Institute for Mittelstand and Family Firms at the HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration, the “Hamburg Conference: Law and Management of Family Firms” has since 2017 created an annual forum for international exchange in the fields of law and business management. A recently published conference volume is devoted to the topic of listed family businesses.
Family firms have increasingly become the object of research activities in a variety of disciplines, such as law, psychology, management, and sociology. While interdisciplinary exchange has taken place in some cases, exchange between the fields of law and management has thus far been very rare. This shortcoming prompted Institute Director Holger Fleischer and Stefan Prigge (HSBA) to launch the Hamburg Conference: Law and Management of Family Firms and to correspondingly support the effort with academic publications.
Listed Family Companies stands as the second volume in the Fleischer und Prigge publication series Law and Management of Family Firms. It begins with an introduction of the world of publicly listed family companies, followed by an overview of the potential motives for going public. The remaining nine chapters consider, inter alia, a number of country-specific topics seen in Germany, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and France. Fleischer and Prigge conclude the book with a brief survey of future research opportunities as raised in the interdisciplinary discussion sessions following the conference presentations.
The book has also been made available open access.
