About
the Speaker
José
Antonio Moreno Rodríguez is an internationally renowned arbitrator from Paraguay, held in high
esteem for his expertise in commercial, sports, and investment arbitration. He
currently chairs the Consultative Committee on Investment Contracts and
UNIDROIT Principles and has been an active member of various international
committees and organizations. He has lectured at multiple universities in
Paraguay and around the world, as well as at The Hague Academy of International
Law and MIDS (Master in International Dispute Settlement) in Geneva.
About
the Topic
In the
third session of the Trialogues, José Antonio Moreno Rodríguez will delve into
the relevance of private international law for international investment
contracts and explore its relationship to domestic legal regimes, public international
law, and international investment arbitration. Special emphasis will be given
to the OAS Guide on the Law Applicable to International Investment Arbitration
from 2024—the preparation for which Moreno Rodríguez was the rapporteur—and its
relevance for resolving issues in international investment arbitration, as well
as the current discussions under the UNIDROIT and the ICC Institute of World
Business Law Working Group on International Investment Contracts.
The session will take place in a trilingual format, giving participants the chance to engage in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The
MPI-ASADIP Trialogues in Private International Law is a multilingual academic
event series exploring current developments in Private International Law across
the Americas. Organized by the Max Planck Institute (Hamburg) in cooperation
with the Asociación Americana de Derecho Internacional Privado (ASADIP), the
series fosters intercultural dialogues in Private International Law in English,
Spanish, and Portuguese.
