Qatar University hires Lena-Maria Möller

Former senior research fellow Lena-Maria Möller, an alum of the research group on the law of Islamic countries, has accepted a research assistant professorship at Qatar University in Doha.

Dr Lena-Maria Möller studied Islamic studies and law at the University of Hamburg and Columbia University. Her dissertation on the codification of family law in the Gulf monarchies of Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates was honoured with the Doctoral Prize of the Faculty of Law at the University of Hamburg and the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society.

Lena-Maria Möller was a research associate at the Institute from 2010 until 2013 and a senior research fellow at the Institute from 2014 until 2019. During this time she was also a member of the research initiative “The Gulf Family” at Georgetown University Qatar. She served as acting professor of Islamic law at the Institute for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Leipzig from 2019 until 2021 and again as acting professor for Islamic law at the Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Münster from 2022 until 2023.
