El lado privado de la transformación de nuestro mundo

Los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible 2030 de la ONU y el papel del Derecho Internacional Privado

Permitir que todos los ciudadanos del mundo vivan con dignidad, preservando al mismo tiempo los recursos naturales, es uno de los mayores retos globales de nuestro tiempo. Este desafío se refleja en los 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) que han sido acordados por la mayoría de los países miembros de las Naciones Unidas. El proyecto "El lado privado de la transformación de nuestro mundo - Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible 2030 de la ONU y el papel del Derecho Internacional Privado" tiene como objetivo sensibilizar sobre cómo el Derecho Internacional Privado - con sus métodos e instituciones - es capaz de hacer una contribución significativa en la promoción del desarrollo sostenible.

El proyecto fue iniciado por el Director del Instituto, Ralf Michaels, junto con Verónica Ruiz Abou-Nigm (Catedrática de Derecho Internacional Privado, Universidad de Edimburgo) y Hans van Loon (ex Secretario General de la Conferencia de La Haya de Derecho Internacional Privado). Los 19 investigadores que participan representan a todos los continentes del mundo y se proponen estudiar la relación entre los ODS y el DIPr. Se basan en sus propios antecedentes personales y experiencias académicas, ofreciendo así, entre otras, la perspectiva del Sur Global.

Las conclusiones resultantes constituyen la base de un volumen editado que fue publicado en noviembre de 2021 por Intersentia, en el que cada uno de los 17 ODS es objeto de un capítulo individual. La obra se ha puesto en línea sin coste alguno (open access) para garantizar su disponibilidad al máximo número de lectores en todo el mundo.

El proyecto y sus resultados iniciales se presentaron y debatieron en el marco de una conferencia celebrada del 9 al 11 de noviembre de 2021 en el Instituto Max Planck de Derecho Comparado e Internacional Privado de Hamburgo. La conferencia híbrida se tradujo simultáneamente al español y contó con la participación digital y en vivo de académicos de todo el mundo.

El proyecto "El lado privado de la transformación de nuestro mundo - Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible 2030 de la ONU y el papel del Derecho Internacional Privado" dejó claro que el DIP es capaz de desempeñar un papel importante en la superación de los desafíos globales. The Private Side of Transforming our World

The role of private law and of private international law (PIL) in implementing the sustainable development goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda has long received little attention. Institute Director Ralf Michaels is co-initiator of an international research project that looks to fill this gap. In a just-released edited volume, each of the Agenda’s 17 sustainable development goals is for the first time analysed with a view towards assessing the contribution that PIL can make to their achievement.  more

Tools for global transformation

An international conference entitled “The Private Side of Transforming Our World – UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the Role of Private International Law” took place at the Institute from 9–11 September 2021. Private International Law and the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 Sustainability Goals

Allowing all people to live in dignity while at the same time protecting our natural environment is one of the globe’s greatest challenges. This aim is expressed in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. The law stands as an important vehicle for their implementation. In cooperation with Veronica Ruiz Abou-Nigm and Hans van Loon, Institute Director Ralf Michaels has launched a research project that examines the role of private international law in realizing the UN goals. more
