April 09, 2021

Prof. Dr. Ralf Michaels, LL.M. (Cambridge), Director at the Institute, was elected to the Executive Committee of the International Association of Legal Science (AISJ-IALS) on 16 March 2021. He follows Institute Director Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Reinhard Zimmermann, who had served on the Committee since 2006, most recently as vice-president.

The AISJ-IALS (Association internationale des sciences juridique / International Association of Legal Science) was founded in London in 1950 in order to promote the development of legal science through research on foreign law and the use of comparative methodology. The Association has its seat in Paris and operates under the auspices of UNESCO and the International Social Science Council (ISC), of which it is a founding member. It serves as an umbrella organization for presently 29 national members, including the Gesellschaft für Rechtsvergleichung on behalf of Germany. Its core activities include the staging of international legal summits, such as the 2014 conference titled “Legal Pluralism” in Turin or the “Legislators, Judges and Professors” symposium held at the Institute in 2015.
