Vita

Maximilian Funk studied law from 2018 to 2026 at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, the Università di Bologna (2021/22), and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. In January and February 2023 he conducted research on European and Japanese private law history at Kyushu University in Fukuoka under Prof. Dr. Mariko Igimi. From 2023 to 2026 he was a scholarship recipient of Cusanuswerk. He sat for the first state exam in law in Bayern in 2026.

Maximilian Funk previously worked as a student research assistant in 2021 under Prof. Dr. Marietta Auer, M.A., LL.M., S.J.D. (Harvard) at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in in Frankfurt am Main; from 2023 to 2024 under Prof. Dr. Peter M. Huber, BVR a. D. at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Chair of Public Law and State Philosophy); and from November 2025 to August 2026 at the Institute. Since September 2026, he has been a research associate under Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Reinhard Zimmermann.

Maximilian Funk‘s doctoral project focuses on the concept of natural law as encountered in the succession law writings of Gustave Boissonade (1825–1910).
