Karl Döding studied law at the University of Münster from 2014–2019 on a scholarship from the Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst. While at Münster, he worked at the Forschungsstelle für Versicherungswesen (Centre for insurance studies). He then dedicated himself to graduate study under Professor Dr. Petra Pohlmann on a doctoral fellowship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. His dissertation, Künstliche Intelligenz als Mitglied des Vorstands einer Aktiengesellschaft (Artificial intelligence as a member of the management board of a stock corporation), won the Münster law faculty’s dissertation prize.
His Referendariat (law clerkship) from November 2023–November 2025 included stations at the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and the German Federal Constitutional Court. He joined the Institute as a senior research fellow under Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Dr. h.c. Holger Fleischer in January 2026.
