Duygu Damar-Blanken named professor at the Berlin School of Economics and Law
Duygu Damar-Blanken, former senior research fellow at the Institute, has been appointed as professor at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (Hochschule für Wirtschaft and Recht Berlin – HWR). As of 1 February 2026, she has assumed the position of professor of civil law, with an emphasis in private international law.
Prof. Dr. Duygu Damar-Blanken studied law at Istanbul Bilgi University and was awarded her doctorate from the University of Hamburg in 2011. From 2009 until 2018 she was a senior research fellow at the Institute, where she headed the regional desk on Turkey. From 2020 to 2025 she was a research associate at the institut für finanzdienstleistungen (institute for responsible finance) e.V. (iff) in Hamburg. In 2024 she was appointed to the European Commission’s Financial Services User Group. She also worked as a lecturer at the University of Hamburg from 2007 to 2018 and at Bremen University of Applied Sciences from 2023 to 2025.
With 57 degree programs, 15 research institutes, a doctoral studies course (Promotionskolleg), and various MBA, master's, and certificate programs, HWR Berlin is one of Germany’s most renowned universities.
