Philipp Ceesay accepts professorial position at Leibniz University Hannover

Philipp Ceesay, former senior research fellow at the Institute, has assumed the Chair for Civil, Commercial, and Company Law at the Law Faculty of Leibniz University Hannover as of 1 January 2026.

Professor Philipp Ceesay, LL.M. (Harvard), studied law at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where he earned his doctoral degree in 2014. His dissertation, funded by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, received prize honours from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the Thuringian Working Group on Corporate Law. In 2016 he began working at the Institute as a research assistant and later became a research fellow after earning his masters degree at Harvard Law School. While an Institute fellow, Ceesay taught at Bucerius Law School, and in the 2021/2022 winter semester he instructed the corporate law specialization course at the University of Jena. Most recently, he was acting professor of civil law and transnational economic law at Leuphana University Lüneburg. In July 2025 he was awarded his habilitation by Bucerius Law School in connection with a work on the erosion and resilience of testamentary formalities in historical-comparative perspective.
