Vita

Ben Köhler studied German and French law at the University of Saarland and the Université Paul Verlaine – Metz as a German Academic Scholarship Foundation award recipient. In 2011 he received the Licence de droit, and in 2013 he sat for Germany’s first state exam in law. After an internship with the Australian Attorney-General’s Department in Canberra, he completed his legal traineeship (Referendariat) at the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt, including postings at a chamber for commercial matters at the Frankfurt Regional Court, the German Embassy in Tel Aviv, Gleiss Lutz Attorneys, and UNIDROIT. The second state exam in law followed in August 2016.

Ben Köhler completed his PhD at Saarland University in 2020. From 2016 to 2018 he was a research assistant for Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Claude Witz at Saarland University. In 2018-2019 he earned his LL.M. at Harvard Law School, with financial support provided by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation’s ERP Programme, the DAAD, and Gleiss Lutz. While at Harvard he worked as a research assistant for Prof. Holger Spamann.

Ben Köhler has been at the Institute since 2020 and is a member of the working group led by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Reinhard Zimmermann.
