Alongside the opportunity to complete work and research in our library, a variety of regularly occuring as well as specially scheduled events allow guests to augment their stay at the Institute and engage in both academic and social exchange with staff researchers and other Institute guests.

The Konzil (Academic Council)
Approximately every six weeks a „Konzil“ is held at which two staff members or Institute guests present their current research in a 30 minute lecture which is followed by comments, questions and discussion. Institute guests are welcome as both audience members and presenters (the Institute's managing director is responsible for organising each Konzil).
Frequency: ca. every 6 weeks, Mondays 17:00-19:00

Club Mittelweg
At regular intervals, „Club Mittelweg“ takes place in a small conference room and is geared towards staff researchers as well as doctoral and post-doctoral candidates working at the Institute. It aims to allow the presentation of smaller projects and recent legal developments (ca. 20 min. talks) with feedback and suggestions provided thereafter for future research directions.
Frequency: Dates will be previously announced, Wednesdays, 12:15-13:00 followed by a shared lunch

Aktuelle Stunde
The „Aktuelle Stunde“ is organised once each week by Professor Zimmermann and is open to Institute staff and interested guests. Drawing from the fields of private law, legal history and comparative law, a speaker delivers a talk on a topic of current interest with discussion following thereafter.

Stammtisch (Regular Roundtable)
On the first Wednesday of the month at 20:00 (rescheduling possible) the Institute "Stammtisch" for guests and staff takes place. The meeting spot changes from month to month and is announced in advance. The Stammtisch allows staff and guests to become acquainted outside of the Institute in a relaxed and social environment.
Football
All interested staff and guests are invited each Thursday (19:00) to join in for a game of football held in the indoor gym of the Sophie-Barat-Schule (adjacent to the MPI). Meeting time/place is 18:50 in the Institute lobby. In the summer the location will shift to the Moorweide across from the Institute; the exact time will then vary with the sunset and will be announced on the video monitors found near the Institute entrances.
Cafeteria
A popular Institute meeting spot is also our Café Max which is located on the ground floor. Coffee and candy automats are on hand, and open-faced sandwiches ("belegte Brötchen) can also be purchased for a limited time each morning.
Specially Scheduled Events
Over the course of the year a variety of lectures and conferences are held at the Institute, many of which are open to Institute guests.
