In a commemorative volume (Festschrift) released in celebration of his 65th birthday, no less than 38 authors from Latin America, Germany and Spain honor Jürgen Samtleben, Senior Research Fellow and leader of the Latin American unit at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law.
Titled "Avances del Derecho Internacional Privado en América Latina - Liber Amicorum Jürgen Samtleben" [Developments in Private International Law in Latin America], the 795 page volume assembles 36 contributions - authored in Spanish, Portuguese and English, which consider the topics of Latin American Private International Law and Procedure. As commented by editor Jan Kleinheisterkamp, "the work brings together many contributions, each a flower in a greater bouquet. And like a bouquet from the whole of Latin America, the book offers a diversity and intensity of styles, colours and scents as rich as their origin."
The theme in the first part of the book is "The Supra-national Dimension of Private International Law in Latin America". Herein, various authors explore "Regional Codifications of Private International Law", "Developments of Private International Law", "Trans-national Commerce", "Economic Regulationa and its International Dimension" and "Integration - the MERCOSUR".
The second part of the book is dedicated to "International Procedural Law in Latin America". First treated are "General Aspects" followed by essays which take up two major points of emphasis, "International Cooperation between Courts & Recognition and Enforcemement of Foreign Judgments" and "Arbitration".
Finally, the third part addresses "Jurists between the Worlds" - considering the first foreign, and particularly German, visitors at the Brasilian law faculties.
