Key Texts on European Private Law

From the publisher (translated): EU directives have intervened in core areas of private law in Germany as in other Member States. The application of a multitude of national legal rules has to observe these directives. This is achieved by interpretation of national rules in conformity with EU-law. The UN-Sales of Goods Law (CISG) is applicable to transnational sales of goods with regard to most major trade partners of Germany. However, international uniform law also exists in agency, factoring, financial leasing and other important fields of law. Furthermore, international cooperations of legal scholars have drafted principles which are gaining more and more importance in the development of private law within Europe. Assembling these three types of texts (directives, CISG, principles), this volume comprises documents relevant to unification of law in Europe and makes them easily accessible for legal practitioners. The main focus lies in contract law including consumer contracts and commercial sale. The third edition has been expanded with a series of important texts (e.g. directive on consumer financial services, "Cape Town"-Convention and the Principles of European Contract Law, Part III). This updated volume provides an indispensable tool helpful for a legal landscape whose daily practice and academic presentation is increasingly influenced by European and international developments.
