Guest Lecture on 23 November 2004 by Prof. Stephen Weatherill: "Is sport 'special'?"
As part of the ongoing Hamburg Forum on International Sports Law, Professor Stephen Weatherill delivered a guest lecture at the Institute on 23 November 2004 under the title: "Is sport 'special'?". Stephen Weatherill is the Jacques Delors Professor of European Community Law at the University of Oxford. His research interests cover the entire range European Community law with European business law and competition law as well as the development of European private law forming the emphases of his work and publications. Weatherill has also published on European sports law.
Transfer Regulations in Professional Sport - Symposium on 11 June 2004
The Hamburg Forum on International Sports Law held a half-day symposium titled "Transfer Regulations in Professional Sport - Eight Years after Bosman" (title translated). The symposium took place on 11 June 2004 at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg.
The topic was addressed not only from a legal perspective but also from the sporting and economic viewpoint of the concerned sporting clubs and organisations. In so doing the participants were presented with a diverse as possible picture of the current and future structuring of transfer decisions in the field of sports. The speakers were accordingly drawn from both the legal profession as well as the management bodies of affected organisations and clubs.
