European Company and Financial Law Review (ECFR)

European Company and Financial Law Review (ECFR)

Inaugurated in 2004, the European Company and Financial Law Review (ECFR) expands the Institute’s engagement in the fields of company and financial law into the European and international publication arena. The ECFR has been conceptualised and edited by, among others, Klaus J. Hopt. It evolved as a sister publication to the Zeitschrift für Unternehmens- und Gesellschaftsrecht (ZGR) and relies upon a unique cooperation among leading European national journals. The ECFR is dedicated to addressing problems that are inherent to all forms of corporate organisation and their financing. It reflects the cross-border nature of company and financial law as well as the critical dialogue between scholars and practitioners in Europe and beyond.

From a company law perspective, the harmonization of Europe has manifested itself in supra-national organisational forms such as the European Stock Corporation (Societas Europaea) – introduced in 2001 – and will press ahead with the European Commission’s 2003 Action Plan on Modernising Company Law and Enhancing Corporate Governance in the European Union. Firm financing has already obtained a common framework through the application of common accounting principles adopted in 2005 and through the Action Plan for Financial Services of 1999. The ECFR shall contribute to a multidisciplinary discussion in both of these legal fields. In compliance with internationally recognised standards of excellence, all manuscripts will be subject to anonymous peer review by two designated experts in order to assess the publication value. Furthermore, current legal developments in Europe and Member States will be discussed at annual conferences.

The ECFR is published by de Gruyter, Berlin and appears quarterly. (Approx. 500 pages, ISSN 1613-2548 (Print), ISSN 1613-2556 (Online)). It is edited by Fleischer, Goette, Hirte, Hommelhoff, Hopt, Krieger, Merkt, Priester. The sister journals are the German Zeitschrift für Unternehmens- und Gesellschaftsrecht (also de Gruyter, Berlin) as well as the Belgian Revue pratique des sociétés (Bruylant, Brussels), the French Revue des sociétés (Dalloz, Paris), the Italian Rivista delle Società (Giuffrè, Milan) and the Spanish Revista de Derecho des Sociedades (Aranzadi, Pamplona). Cooperation partners are Davies und Rickford (England), Conac und Urbain-Parleani (France), Ferrarini (Italy), Kalss (Austria) und Irujo (Spain).
