Beiträge, Studien und Materialien zum ausländischen und internationalen Privatrecht

I. Beiträge

The series “Beiträge  zum ausländischen und internationalen Privatrecht” publishes significant academic papers, most notably post-doctoral dissertations (Habilitationsschriften) which fall within the Institute’s fields of study. A significant number of these published monographs and general accountings were authored at the Institute or overseen by Institute members. The diversity of research topics is considerable, ranging for example from the description of international private law in Latin America, to comparative studies addressing marriage law and parental law or the law on corporate restructuring and reorganisation, and on to a proposed revision of international insurance contract law.

II. Materialien

In addition to the “Beiträge” series, “Materialien zum ausländischen und internationalen Privatrecht” has appeared since 1951. It contains above all important resources and texts on reform and practice in international private law. Its primary goal is to make a wide-ranging body of material readily accessible for research and learning. Earlier volumes of “Materialien” contained for example translations of the Greek and Italian civil codes, or a collection of general materials on the codification of German international private law from 1881 to 1896, or a collection of materials, translations and comments on German international private law in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Also published in the series “Materialen” are the proposals and expert opinion papers on the reform of German international private law that have been developed by a Federal Ministry of Justice committee on international private law (the Kommission des Deutschen Rates für Internationales Privatrecht). Among their number are legislative proposals on marriage law, the law of parent and child and inheritance law as well as the law of the person, the law of obligations and property law.

III. Studien

In 1980 „Studien zum ausländischen und internationalen Privatrecht” was established as a new publication series. It is a series containing a variety of topical materials such as reports from symposia (e.g. on the reform of international private law), results from empirical legal research, reviews of important judicial decisions (e.g. the value guarantee of Young-Bonds), or results from comparative surveys (e.g. child support law in Europe). Also published in the series “Studien” was the Institute’s comparative law report “Kindschaftsrecht im Wandel”, an expert analysis on the law of parent and child that was commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Justice in order to facilitate their formulation of legal reform. Above all however, the pages of “Studien” are available for the publication of outstanding doctoral dissertations.
