University of Lleida Confers Honorary Doctorate on Professor Dr. Reinhard Zimmermann

Professor Dr. Reinhard Zimmermann, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, has been conferred an honorary doctorate from the University of Lleida. The distinction was conveyed in recognition of Professor Zimmermann's foundational contributions to the Europeanisation of legal scholarship based upon historical-comparative law analysis.Lleida (Ilerda in Roman antiquity; Lerida in Spanish) is located in western Catalonia and is since 1299 one of the oldest universities on the Iberian peninsula. Its law faculty has in recent years established itself as an important intermediary between regional, national and European legal cultures.
The conferral of the honorary doctorate took place as part of an academic convocation comprising one element of an international congress titled "European Private Law beyond the Common Frame of Reference“.
