Prof. Dr. Holger Knudsen, director of the library of the Max Planck Institute, was elected chairman of the Law Libraries Section of the International Federation of Library Associations. The election, announcing a four-year term, took place on August 18, 2007 at the occasion of the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Durban, South Africa. The WLIC is a yearly occurring meeting of librarians from throughout the world and in 2007 was attended by more than 3,200 participants from 145 countries.

Headquartered in the Hague, the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) is divided into 48 sections and is the governing body of worldwide professional associations for library and information services .
