EU-China Investment Relations: A Critical Appraisal

Professor SHAN graduated from University of Cambridge (PhD, Trinity College), Xiamen University (PhD), Jinan University (M Econ) and Sun Yet-Sen University (LLB), PR China. He is a Professor in Law and the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Xi'an Jiaotong University, China and a Reader in Law at Oxford Brookes University, England. SHAN has been a Visiting Fellow of the Lauterpacht Research Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge and a Visiting Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore. He has authored "The Legal framework of EU-China Investment Relations" (Oxford Hart Publishing 2005) and "International Trade Law" (Volumes I & II) (Peking University Press) and has published extensively in leading English and Chinese law journals. He is a Co-General-Editor of "China and International Economic Law Series" (Oxford Hart Publishing), and an Editor of the Chinese Journal of International Law (OUP), European Law Review (in Chinese) and Chinese Review of Common Law (Law Press, China). SHAN has been the Founding President of the UK Chinese Law Association (UKCLA). Currently a Senior Consultant of HaiLiWen PRC Attorneys, Shanghai, SHAN has practiced Chinese and international law as a PRC barrister and solicitor since 1992. SHAN's practice and expertise cover international investment including investment treaty arbitration, international trade including WTO-related trade dispute settlement, arbitration and litigation. His clients include multinational companies, foreign-invested enterprises and domestic companies in China. SHAN is an Arbitrator of the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, a Fellow of Cambridge Overseas Society and currently chairs the Law Commission of the Federation of Chinese Professional Associations in the UK (FCPS-UK).
