The Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Law in Hamburg will open its doors to the public on Saturday, 29 October 2011, from 5:00 PM until midnight as part of the 4th "Nacht des Wissens" (Night of Knowledge). Visitors are invited to participate in multiple "legal expeditions" which will explore the international research undertaken at the Institute. The Institute's unique-to-Europe library, normally only accessible by researchers, will also be opon for public inspection. Practicing professionals and the general public alike are invited to attend one or more of the presentations and familiarise themselves with the daily research reconciling national legal regimes with the process of globalisation. Entrance to the Nacht des Wissens is free.Long before politicians decide upon new laws or legal reforms, researchers of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Law are engaged in considering their legal basis. As part of this process, legal systems from around the world are analysed, compared with one another and probed as to their potential for harmonisation. In light of both a unified Europe and a backdrop of increasing globlisation, such work represents an academic endeavour of the highest significance.
