27.07.2010

On 10 June 2010 Dr. Jan D. Lüttringhaus was awarded the Osborne-Clarke Prize from the law faculty of the University of Cologne for his doctoral dissertation. Titled "Grenzüberschreitender Diskriminierungsschutz – Das internationale Privatrecht der Antidiskriminierung" ("Transnational Protection against Discrimination - The International Private Law of Anti-Discrimination), the work was prepared at the Institute and supervised by Prof. Dr. Heinz-Peter Manse.

Relying on the basis of an increasingly Europeanised body of private international law (PIL), the dissertation of Jan Lüttringhaus answers the question how the applicable anti-discrimination law is to be determined in individual cross-border cases. Alongside international contract law, labour law and insurance law, he additionally examines international company law and association law.

Sponsored by the Osborn Clarke law firm, the prize for the best dissertation in the field of international law is awarded annually by the University of Cologne. The keynote address at the award ceremony was presented by the Vice President of the International Court of Justice, His Excellency Peter Tomka, and was titled "On the Judicial Function in the International Community“. Additional speakers included the Dean of the Law Faculty, Prof. Dr. Thomas Weigend and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Ehricke.
