Dr. Ben Steinbrück awarded top academic prize of the German Institute of Arbitration
11.05.2010
The German Institute of Arbitration (DIS) conferred their highest academic prize for junior researchers on Dr. Ben Steinbrück, former Institute research fellow.
Awarded every two years, the academic prize recognises excellence of scholarship in the field of alternative dispute resolution. Ben Steinbrück received the honour for the dissertation he prepared while at the Institute, "Die Unterstützung ausländischer Schiedsverfahren durch staatliche Gerichte" (The Support of Foreign Arbitration Proceedings by National Courts). The work analyses the cooperation between national courts and foreign arbitral tribunals and shows why and in which instances supportive cross-border measures should be available. In addition to German law, the study considers corresponding regulations in Austrian, Swiss, English, French and US law. From this comparative perspective, Steinbrück demonstrates why the German provisions of cross-border judicial assistance in respect of foreign arbitration proceedings represent a successful effort that bear witness to Germany's modern and supportive approach towards arbitration.
The Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit e.V. is an association promoting arbitration in Germany and beyond with an international membership of approximately 1000. The association releases several publications addressing domestic and international arbitration topics and regularly holds both conferences as well as training seminars for lawyers and other interested parties. Additionally, DIS offers an arbitration forum consistent with DIS arbitration regulations.
