Universität Bielefeld awards Honorary Doctorate to Ernst-Joachim Mestmäcker

During the ceremonies commemorating the 40 year anniversary of the law faculty at the Universität Bielefeld, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Oehler, Managing Director of the Institut für deutsches, europäisches und internationales Wirtschaftsrecht (IWB), praised the efforts of Ernst-Joachim Mestmäckers in the development of the Universität Bielefeld. From 1967 until 1969 Mestmäcker was the chairman of the committee responsible for establishing the university, and in 1969 he became the university's founding dean. Mestmäcker served as a professor of private law, commercial law and business law at Bielefeld from 1969 to 1978.

The university in the Teutoburg Forest currently has approximately 18,000 students attending 82 different programs of study within its 13 faculties.
