Record Number of Visitors for the 3rd "Night of Knowledge"

Around the World in 80 Minutes – More than 200 visitors completed a trip around the globe of scholarship at the Max Planck Institute for Private Law.

On 7 November 2009 over 60 research and science institutes throughout Hamburg and its greater metropolitan area opened their doors to guests in order to share experiments, interactive activities, lectures and workshops - and all at no cost. In total more than 17,000 visitors took advantage of the opportunity, more than twice the number of visitors from two years ago. At the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, guests were provided a convincing glimpse into the work of its scholars through a program of short lectures, „Around the World in 80 Minutes – A Guided Tour of Legal Science.“

Especially families used the night for a field trip into the world of science and research. Even before the evenings activities officially began, many institutions were already at capacity and saw their lecture halls filled to the last seat. Hundreds of staff members and fellows from the many universities, learning centers and research institutes located in the greater Hamburg participated in the event and insured that the guests experienced an evening filled with information and enthusiasm while visiting the nearly 700 individual exhibits, installations and programs. 50 shuttle buses from the Hamburger Hochbahn (Regional Transportation) which ran along 8 special routes linking the participating institutes were heavily utilised - several lines even needed to increase the frequency of service. In all, the "Night of Knowledge" allowed thousands of visitors from Hamburg and its greater metropolitan area to personally engage the region's many scientists, researchers and scholars and interact first hand with the knowledge, experiments and creativity which their firms and institutions bring to bear.
