Andreas M. Fleckner receives Otto-Hahn-Medal
18.06.2009
The Otto-Hahn-Medal for junior researchers has been awarded to Dr. Andreas M. Fleckner, Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law. Andreas Fleckner has been bestowed the Max Planck Society honour for his dissertation "Antike Kapitalvereinigungen“ (Ancient Capital Associations).Capital associations help to finance projects which, on account of their scope, duration or risk, exceed the capacity of single individuals. The honoured dissertation develops an epoch-spanning theory of capital associations and examines whether and in what form capital asssociations existed in antiquity as a means of financing large-scale enterprises. An analysis of the available sources suggests that the ancient "joint-stock corporations" which have been postulated for many generations are in fact a modern myth.
The Otto Hahn Medal is intended to motivate especially gifted junior scientists and researchers to pursue a future university or research career. The award, which includes an honorarium, will be conferred during the annual general assembly of the Max Planck Society in Mainz.
